The European Certificate in Irish Language Examination Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge
This examination developed by the Language Center at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, is a system for adult learners of Irish to measure their progress. It is linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (Council of Europe, 2001). The test provides a benchmark, offering six levels in the system of certification for learners within and outside formal academic environments. Level 1 (A1) Examination will be held at Glucksman Ireland House, the center of Irish Studies at New York University in cooperation with The Language Center of The National University of Ireland, Maynooth, on Saturday April 18th Oral examinations will be held in the morning by appointment. The written examination will be from 1:30pm until 3:30pm The examination will be administered by an examiner from the National University of Ireland at Maynooth. The complete syllabus for Level 1, sample exam papers and sound files may be downloaded from www.teg.ie Application forms may be downloaded from www.teg.ie or may be obtained from Glucksman Ireland House. They should be returned to Glucksman Ireland House by March 20th 2009 with a check for $120. Checks should be made payable to Glucksman Ireland House, NYU. Glucksman Ireland House is offering five scholarships to current Irish Language students at NYU.
