Origin Theatre Company, Artistic Director George C. Heslin, in association with Glucksman Ireland House NYU, present the fifth annual Mondays of May play reading series. The second play of this year's series is the 2008 Stewart Parker Award-winning play Pumpgirl.

Pumpgirl unfolds with the story of a homely, tomboyish pump girl at a rundown gas station. When a local racetrack star becomes the focus of her obsession, the affair threatens more than the feelings of his disenchanted wife. The play is in the best tradition of richly detailed and unforgettable Irish storytelling.

In 2008 Origin Theatre Company launched the Origin Initiative, an exciting addition to Ireland's most prestigious play writing award, in which the recipient of the Stewart Parker Trust Award is flown to New York where his or her work is presented at Origin Theatre Company’s annual play reading series, Mondays of May. The series is now in its fifth year at Glucksman Ireland House NYU. This additional honor immediately introduces the winning playwright to New York City's renowned theatre community of artists, audiences, and press. Established 20 years ago in tribute to Northern Irish playwright Stewart Parker, The Stewart Parker Award annually honors and promotes Ireland's hottest new play writing talent. Previous winners of the Trust's annual awards have included Conor MacPherson, Enda Walsh, Sebastian Barry, Mark O'Rowe, Gary Duggan and Paul Meade, many of whom have been launched in the U.S. by Origin.

On April 20, 2009, at the Abbey Theatre Dublin, Newry playwright Abbie Spallen was awarded this year’s prize; in attendance was Irish President Mary McAleese.
